KELOWNA... The increasingly familiar sight of smoke rose over Kelowna Thursday afternoon, heralding a return to duty for local fire crews and BC Forest Services. Two grassfires were reported near the south end of Lakeshore Road near the boundary of Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park, at around 1 p.m. and crews were on scene shortly thereafter to fight the blaze and evacuate residents who were in harms way. “When we arrived there were two hectares involved and it was fairly slow moving,” said Thomas Doherty Kelowna’s assistant fire chief, adding flames appear to have materialized from roadside.
