Take a trip with Shirley Valentine

KAMLOOPS - Western Canada Theatre may turn me into a comedy lover. First, it staged Thunderstick, a truly funny play that apparently resonated with Kamloopsians, given its success at the box office, and now it brings Shirley Valentine to Sagebrush Theatre. I never saw the movie - not a comedy fan, remember? - and I am delighted I did not because I would not want anything to interfere with the sheer joy of watching Nicola Cavendish create the woman searching for vibrancy in her life again. Cavendish has been described as the Canadian owner of this role - and she is. Simply put, she is marvellous as the British wife bored with the sameness of her life and wondering where the girl she once was has gone to. She is funny, she is poignant, she is insightful and she is oh so real.
