International Rugby 7s

Given the distinct international flavour that has come to define the Abbotsford Rugby Sevens tournament, it was somewhat surprising that two domestic sides stole the show.
As teams from South Africa and Fiji fell by the wayside, it paved the way for a showcase of the present and future of the Canadian men's rugby program on Sunday evening.
Valley High, a collection of current Team Canada players out of Victoria, represented the present. Canada Maple Leaf, a group of youngsters in the national developmental pipeline, embodied the future.
Ultimately, Valley High's experience won the day, as they edged the Maple Leaf squad 29-26 in the international division final of the local sevens festival.

Masters still slam dunk king at Dolphin Park

The more things change, the more they stay the same—at least at Dolphin Park.
While a new women's division was introduced this year, to coincide with the annual 4-on-4 Richmond playground hoop tournament, some familiar players continue to dominate.
Breanne Watson, one of the top female basketball players ever to graduate from the local high schools league, led US eh!, a team made of some of her former University of Washington teammates and other Seattle-area players including former WNBA draft pick Lindsey Wilson, to the inaugural women's division crown.
The X-Falcons, led by three-time tournament MVP Randy Nohr and perennial all-star Navi Sekhon and featuring recent UBC grad Kyle Watson, won its third Dolphin Park men's title in four years.
And former McNair Marlins' star Josh Masters continues to reign as the slam dunk king, winning for an unprecented 12th time Sunday.
